This weekend, WWE is throwing its annual “Biggest Party of the Summer” at SummerSlam. First held in 1988, SummerSlam is one of WWE’s five biggest Premium Live Events (PLE), along with Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, Money in the Bank, and WrestleMania. This is the first SummerSlam under the TKO banner, with Triple H fully in charge of creative.
After pinning Cody Rhodes and Money in the Bank, Solo Sikoa gets his shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship. As the new leader of the Bloodline, Sikoa can firmly establish himself as the “Tribal Chief” with a win against Rhodes on Saturday night. If he loses, there will be repercussions for the Bloodline. Would a Sikoa loss bring Roman Reigns back from his hiatus to straighten out his family?
SummerSlam 2024, at the Cleveland Browns Stadium, marks the 37th edition of WWE's famed Biggest Party of the Summer and, boy, has it shaped up to be a huge show! Expected to headline the Premium Live Event, it's Cody Rhodes defending the WWE Undisputed Championship against The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa, with the bigger talking point the seemingly imminent return of Roman Reigns.
Elsewhere, WWE SummerSlam 2024 is brimming with title matches as Damian Priest defends the World Heavyweight Championship against GUNTHER, Priest's Judgment Day stablemate Rhea Ripley challenges Women's World Champion Liv Morgan, Nia Jax looks to dethrone Bayley as WWE Women's Champion, LA Knight attempts to win his first piece of main roster WWE gold against United States Champion Logan Paul, and Bron Breakker gets a second shot at the Intercontinental Championship held by Sami Zayn.
Rounding out the card, there's the extremely heated rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, with these two warriors finally going to war – and, intriguingly, with Seth Rollins along for the ride as the special guest referee.
SummerSlam begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Saturday, August 3. Because of the event’s severity, a special three-hour pre-show will begin at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT. SummerSlam takes place at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio.
A huge grudge match will finally happen at WWE’s SummerSlam event in Cleveland, along with several title fights. One of the top matches on the card will be CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre.
McIntyre was eliminated from the Royal Rumble by Punk, who returned to WWE at Survivor Series following a stint in AEW. Though he tore his right triceps, Punk was still involved in WWE storytelling, especially after McIntyre credited himself for injuring Punk.
From there, it was a game of one-upmanship by both. Punk helped Damian Priest take the World Heavyweight Title away from McIntyre at WrestleMania. After McIntyre threatened his family, Punk prevented McIntyre from successfully cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase for gold at the MITB event.
Now, the two finally face off with Seth “Freakin’” Rollins, a man who knows both men well, as the special guest referee.
Labeled as WWE's "Biggest Party of the Summer" the premium live event continues to get bigger and bigger every year.
Now in its 37th edition, SummerSlam 2024 on Saturday night should follow suit from Cleveland Browns Stadium.
The SummerSlam card includes seven huge matches, six of which are for championships. And the only match without a title on the line is WWE's storyline of the year between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk. Their feud has become extremely personal ever since CM Punk was injured in the Royal Rumble in January at the hands of McIntyre. Add Seth Rollins, a former champion who has had his issues with both men, as the special guest referee and this is likely the most anticipated match for fans due to its unpredictability and build-up.
Drew McIntyre’s feud with CM Punk has reached boiling point, with their match scheduled to take place at SummerSlam. An exciting twist sees Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins announced as a special guest referee. While World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest has a new challenge as King of the Ring, Gunther attempts to dethrone him.
Moving on to ‘The American Nightmare.’ Cody Rhodes has a daunting challenge ahead of him as the new Tribal Chief of ‘The Bloodline’ Solo Sikoa, looks to bring back the Undisputed WWE Championship. Further in the card, ‘The Irresistible Force’ Nia Jax will test WWE Women’s Champion Bayley,’ as her alliance with Ms. Money in the Bank 2024, Tiffany Straton will prove to be a boon or bane for both the wrestlers.
Speaking of chaotic, that's exactly what the Undisputed WWE Championship match between champion Cody Rhodes and challenger Solo Sikoa should be when the two go toe-to-toe in a Bloodline Rules match (a stipulation added on Smackdown last night). It was just four months ago at WrestleMania 40 that Rhodes battled a Bloodline member in this type of match. And that match was as wild as they come when Rhodes finally conquered Bloodline Tribal Chief Roman Reigns to win his first WWE championship.
At one point WWE called these pre-premium live event pep rallys “press conferences”, but because they weren’t — and because they now hold those after PLEs as part of the Post Show) — they’re now Kickoffs. In the “New Era” at WWE, the pre-show program that used to be a Kickoff is now a Countdown. That will be along as usual tomorrow before the big show, as usual.
